Similar in looks to Nokia 3250, new Nokia 5700 XpressMusic S60 smartphone is released. The Nokia 5700 has a strong focus on music, and even has a dedicated audio chip to help your tracks sound that little bit better.
The three modes of the 5700 - music player, camera, videophone, and smartphone - can be accessed by twisting the lower portion of the handset.
Music is the main draw for the Nokia 5700, and users can store all their tunes on microSD cards up to 2GB, and can listen to them through Bluetooth stereo headphones or regular headphones with the bundled 3.5mm headphone adapter. The 5700 is compatible with WMA, MP3, AAC, and eAAC+ audio, and users can even load it with DRM protected WMA files.

Remember the Nokia 7088 rumor? That rumor has been replaced by fact, with the 7088 being the first CDMA model in the L’Amour range to be released from Nokia. Featuring what looks like a papaya form factor, the Nokia 7088 boasts a ‘jewel-like’ select key and sculpted D-pad surrounding by a metallic frame that aims to ignite the desire within you (or your lady) to own one. A leather-like material covers the rest of the handset for an improved tactile experience. Other features of the Nokia 7088 includes an integrated camera with LED flash, a 128 x 160 pixel display, speakerphone functionality, a voice recorder, and a calendar application. You will be able to see the Nokia 7088 in action at selected markets in Asia/Pacific, Middle East, Africa, China, and Latin America when Q2 rolls around. Pricing details are still unknown.

For some odd reason — and a most fortuitous one for us — the rebate team never seems to quite get in sync with the launch team for a good percentage of handset launches, giving us tantalizing glimpses at the future of cellphones now and then, or at least a model name to go on. This time we’ve got all we could ask for out of this common snafu, since friendly tipster AJ managed to track down a rebate form for the much-rumored Sidekick ID on T-Mobile’s site that not only promises a handy $50 to whoever can navigate its tricksy questions, but also gives us a likely sounding April 18 launch date to mull over, along with our first full-on “press shots” of the phone. The cute, pared down exterior is further complemented by a selection of primary colors, as seen above, making this a likely pick for the budget-minded “I don’t need no stinkin’ EDGE data” fashionphone set. In fact, with prices like these ($99.99 after a $50 rebate), why not just buy ‘em all to mix and match with your outfits? You know you want to.

According to CNET, Cingular [aka, the new AT&T] has “confirmed” June 11 as the release date for Apple’s iPhone. Keep in mind that confirmation in this case is unofficial as it supposedly comes from a front-line sales support person. See, after a call to Cingular’s customer service, CNET was transfered to sales where they were told of the magical date. Of course, all this makes perfect sense as the 11th also marks the kickoff of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference where Steve and Co are always keen to announce new wares.

This isn’t the first time we have seen Samsung’s SPH-M8100. Remember, this is that crazy WiBro (mobile WiMax) phone sporting a dedicated RSS key (upper-right button on that Korean keypad). Only now, it’s been slightly retooled for its official Korean launch. Besides the facelift, it appears unchanged spec-wise as a member of Sammy’s elite MITs (Mobile Intelligent Terminal) family of devices. So it still packs the latest CDMA and EV-DO radios and DMB mobile television only now wrapped up in a pretty Windows Mobile 6.0 interface. Bluetooth, 2.8-inch display, and 2 megapixel camera still come standard. With any luck, we might see this rollout on Sprint’s WiMAX network someday,

While we’re seeing more Linux-powered mobile phones, not a single such device brought the navigation with it. Truth to be told, Nokia is pushing its 770 and N800 Internet Tablets with navigation apps, but those two devices are not mobile phones. Finally, China-based Tranzda showed its PM328, a thin (16 mm) smartphone with integrated GPS navigation. The device itself runs Tranzda’s “Newplus” software on top of the Linux core, and for navigation it uses u-blox’s navigation app. In terms of connectivity, the PM328 supports Bluetooth and USB connections.
The new device is now in China, and it is not yet know whether it will be available in the western world.
